Obama Should Just Be Himself

advertisement

that's why I am convinced that Mr. Obama does not need to fundamentally change his message or strategy to win over the undecideds (though a few of the refinements being suggested would be helpful). He mostly just needs to be himself -- or to be more precise, to be more of himself. No reinvention, no repositioning -- just recount the tough stands and political risks he has already taken, relentlessly reinforce those points for the next three months, and ideally look for a few opportunities to walk the change-making walk as we near November.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

A very interesting look at how Democrats may be advocating the wrong campaign strategy for Obama, and that he should be practicing "exactly what wins over independents -- being independent." The author also suggests Obama should concentrate on the issue of education reform.

This fretting is understandable to some extent, and not just because we are the party that made the hand-wring its official handshake.

It's no longer time for hand wringing. It's time to use hands to some effect. Obama relies on the volunteer labor of thousands. They will insure the vote. As to Obama he has exposed himself as Daddy. Let's see more of the Obama show. Trust him to do it. He's a grown up.

Or the undoing of the Democrats... It's a long way until November. I'm not sure Obama is willing to be openly independent, because of all the sea-sawing I've already observed.

Um, who said that? It's not in the Code of Honor, recommended guidelines to make you a better Viner, or User Agreement. I don't see anything about manually searching for and checking for duplicate articles before posting.

It used to be that when you seeded a link, the Vine's software would check for articles already seeded, and would tell you (almost verbatim), "This article has already been seeded, but you can reseed it if you like or join the existing discussion."

When I seeded this link, I got no type of warning or prompt regarding this article already being seeded.

Are you accusing me of misconduct?

Well, Christian, the "already seeded" notice doesn't seem to be working very well lately, and it's entirely possible thedoctor didn't get the notification. I know I've also seeded a few things this week that were previously seeded, but I didn't get the notice.

Hopefully all will be right on the Vine again soon.

thedoctori,

I think it is very funny that you post an article that says Obama should just be himself, when you are constantly changing your Avatar. Ha Ha. I do like the new look, and this is a good seed.

I'm really curious as to what Obama supporters think of this strategy, though I haven't got much feedback, which probably means Obama-ites are too caught up in the rock-star campaign instead of nitty-gritty policy issues.

We're all trying to figure that out. I applaud him for picking a woman, but why not a woman with stronger credentials? There's Hutchinson, Whitman, Veneman ... Even Snowe. The first three have some level of executive experience, particular Whitman and Veneman. Hutchinson and Venemen have strong foreign policy credentials. One could easily imagine them taking the reins of the party in 2012 or 2016. I don't get it.

I see she's achieved a few things, but I'm still wondering how McCain and his staff came to this decision.

Is it a surprise meant to energize the campaign with a fresh face, youth, the first women Rep VP, a track-record for honesty, an appeal to the conservative wing of the party...?

I still don't see why McCain didn't pick someone more well-known and seasoned -- and who could deliver a large block of votes.

Good point: McCain has probably been the boldest politician, e.g., just on the sole point of supporting REAL campaign finance reform. If this were ancient Rome, he would've been stabbed already.

I guess, but who else would've Evangelicals voted for anyway, Obama????????????

I was rooting for Lieberman, as McCain could've brought a lot of independents and old-fashioned (sane) Democrats on-board. American political power is in the center, as are both McCain and Lieberman...

(If I were king, I'd straighten out their strategy, heh, heh...)

What really scared me early on about Obama was his allies and/or those of his "church", like Rev. Jeremiah G#d-damn-America Wright, Al diamond-merchants(-Jews) Sharpton, Louis Judaism-is-a-''gutter religion" Farrakhan, and James "house n-gg-rs" Meeks.

Obama ignored these ties until they were too hot to handle, and then down-played these connections as if they were nothing. Bottom-line, these people were useful to him at some point and he knows he can get away with it because of political correctness.

Obama's rhetoric about the economy is silly. Yes, I know we're in a dip, but he's never managed a national economy, and certainly doesn't have the credentials to do so. Anyway:

* U.S. GDP was $9,953 billion in October 2000 and $14,201 billion in January 2008.
* Monthly unemployment rate during the same period averaged about 5.1% -- a tad lower than during Clinton's years. Pretty good for an industrialized/Western nation.
* CPI (inflation) has averaged 3% like it has for almost a century.
